College Essay

To Ohio State University: Growing up as the only girl in the family was hard at first. I didn’t think I had anyone to relate to. Having two brothers made me feel like I was always left out. I never had an older sister to teach me about hair and makeup. Never got any cute hand-me-downs. Couldn’t talk to anyone about boys or the latest drama. I thought I was missing out and it was unfair. As I’ve grown up and entered high school my thoughts have completely changed. Walking through the high school doors for the very first time, everyone knew who I was. “There’s little Niehoff” “Little Kev” everyone would say. So that’s when it hit me. I didn’t care that I didn’t have an older sister because I knew I had an older brother; and a cool one at that. Since my brother has graduate high school he has become the person to influence me the most. He has been a role model that I believe every younger sister or brother should look up to. A top athlete with the most sarcastic yet funny personality that I know would make anyone laugh. The life of the party. A persistent and hardworking guy. A go-getter; who knows what he wants and makes it happen. Tough on the outside, yet so soft deep inside. Friendly to all he encounters. He is Kevin Niehoff and someone I am so lucky and blessed to call my older brother. Reflecting back on this past year, I realized he has influenced me the most. Getting a scholarship to play football as one of the buckeyes was an amazing thing for him. Watching him graduate high school early and get right into the college life must have been hard. But he sucked it up and made things happen. Never once had I heard him complain that he was missing his friends, his whole summer, or any of that. He knew that was what it took. When my parents announced their divorce, the first call I got was from my brother; checking up on me to make sure I was okay. I think because he has started a new chapter in his life it has bought us closer. I am a very guarded person, who rarely opens up or trust anyone. Except when it comes to him. He is the person I go to for anything I need, whether its boys, school, sports or family, anything and everything I know he will be there for me. I don’t know if I can put into words why or how much my brother has impacted and influenced my life. Just the man he has grown up to be has influenced me. He has taught me more things than I can even think of. Never give up on something I believe in, be an independent person, know how to go with flow; yet don’t take crap from anyone. He has taught me not to live life on the safe side and experience as much things as possible. Never take anything for granted because you never know what’s around the corner. One thing I do know, is that my brother has helped shaped me into the person I have become and still becoming today. I now can say I have successfully taught myself how to do good hair and makeup. I get new clothes instead of hand-me-downs. And most importantly I have learned to understand the mind of a boy…well at least somewhat. With his influence I know I can concur anything. The next chapter in my life is graduating as a Comet and transforming into a Buckeye.

Blog 6: Time Perspective Assessment

One thing I learned from this article is that the way you perceive time can influence your happiness. After taking the assessment, my results were concluded that my time perspective was the greatest with past positive and present-hedonistic. Nearly half as much as my greatest time perspective my lowest was with present-fatalistic. When evaluating my results, I would say that it is pretty much accurate. My highest was present-hedonistic, which means my life is devoted to the pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification. I think that is accurate because I do things that make me happy and that I want to do. I also agree with my lowest score which was present-fatalistic. I do not think fate determines everything. I do not think this because if I want something done or something to happen, it is my responsibility to make that happen. The next highest from my results was past-negative. I agree with that because I always look back on things and think how I could change something or have done something better. Overall I would say that these assessments results were pretty accurate.

Blog 3: Poem Presentation Reflections

For my presentation on "somewhere I have never traveled" I think my group did rather well. Personally I believe that I did a good job with outlining the power point with all the necessary information and requirements needed. I think I did a decent amount of work on this project. Everyone in the group did do a fair share as well. It was definitely and group effort! Throughout this project I have learned many new and interesting things. For instance, I have never used Google drive! In the future I will continue to use this for all projects. Things I could work on for future presentations would to have a hard copy with some key notes written on it so I don't have to constantly look up at the board. Overall I was quite happy with the turn out, being it was the first presentation of the tri!
"The Garden and L'art"
This poem interested me because I think the group did a nice job grabbing my attention at the beginning. That helped keep me engaged the whole time. It also made me want to learn more about the poem, especially when Cameron started talking about the picture of the "cherry" I was interested to see where he was going with that, so it kept me to focus. I thought it was cool that Pound wrote about and study medieval literature, that kind of stuff is really interesting to me. After this groups presentation on Pound and this poem, I think I would be a fan of his work. I like how he creates vivid images and uses free verse.
"Red Slippers"
I obviously tuned into this poem because it's about shoes and what girl doesn't like shoes! Like group 1, I enjoyed their introduction. They started out with a quote from Christian Louboutin; I thought that was cool cause they tied a well known, very popular person to a simple poem. During this whole poem Lowell used similes to describe the shoes beauty. She compared the shoes at one point to blood, which was kind of cool. From listening to this presentation I learned about polyphonic prose, which is something I've never heard of, so it was cool to learn something new.
"Helen"
Hands down this was my favorite poems! I think Greek mythology is the coolest thing ever! I didn't know that Helen started the Trojan war, so that was really cool to find out. Also that this poem is saying not only can a women be insanely beautiful but she can also be extremely powerful. Another reason I enjoyed this poem was because of the repetition and rhyme. I think when poems rhyme it helps it flow better.
"Poetry"
This poem didn't really stick out to me as much as the others did. I don't know if it was the way it was presented or if it was just something I wasn't interested in. Like all the other poems this one contain imagery. Things that others didn't focus on as much were nature, animals, and science. When the group was talking about that it made me think of the romantics because that's what they're all about. I liked the use of symbolism in this poem, as well as the repetition.
"Red Wheelbarrow"
This poem stood out to me because it was so short and simple. It was one of the poems that I remembered the most. I liked this poem so much because it has just ease, yet at the same time power to it. The free verse is so simple that it creates an instant picture in your head of what the author is talking about. That helps me a lot when I'm reading poems because it makes them more exciting and lets me understand them more.

Blog 2:
When creating my blog, I thought of things that I liked and thought would make my blog look elegant. I choose everything based a pond my feeling and emotion. For my background I choose a picture of roses; I love the flower and thought it added a cool, loving, earthy feel to my blog. I wanted to create a sense of homey atmosphere for my readers. I want other bloggers to grasps that feeling, so they’re comfortable. Red takes on many emotions for many different people. Seeing my blog is very loving but on the other hand very strong and powerful. The color also tied into my picture because I’m wearing a red shirt. It brings everything together and makes it all one.

The font I choose for my blogs title is a very easy type font. I think it creates a very whimsical feel. It’s very light and breezy. The article mentioned that fun typefaces get the reader’s attention. It stands out, lets them know whose page they’re on. For my post I choose I simple font; Calibri. I read that having a simple font is important because everything is clear to the readers. At the end of the day I want my blog to reflect who I am. I want to show my personality threw it.
